One of the things that made SMB3 such a hit, is Mario's ability to wear
a variety of suits, here they are and a description of them.

Small Mario
Just classic Small Mario, if he gets hit once he dies. |

Big Mario (Super Mario)
Just classic Big Mario here. |

Fire Mario
Just classic Fire Mario, he can shoot fireballs, which can destroy some
enemies. |

Raccoon Mario
Probably the best known suit for SMB3, the one that brought the ability
to fly to the series. This suit is seen many times through-out the
game, run, get up some speed and fly for a period of time. You can also
spin Mario's Tail to attack some enemies. |

Frog Suit Mario
A suit that greatly improves Mario's swimming abilities in water. With
this suit Mario can glide up down, all around in water, dodge enemies
easier, and just get around better.
Unfortunately, when you get this suit on land, you slowly hop across
the level, and its hard to get across a level, although sometimes this
challenge adds to the fun of the game. |

Tanooki Suit
With this cool suit, you can do everything you can in the Raccoon Suit,
run and fly, and swing your tail as an attack.
But one unique feature sets this suit apart, you can turn into stone
for a limited time. While stone, enemies cannot harm you. You can even
kill some enemies while in stone formation, such as rotodisc.
These can be acquired in Toad Houses and hidden in some levels.
The Tanooki Suit is named after Japanese mythology, in which a special
Raccoon is able to turn to stone to escape its enemies. The myth sure
makes for a great suit. |

Hammer Bro. Suit
A suit that doesn't come by that often, but when you get it, you sure
can have a blast. With the Hammer Bro. Suit you are able to throw
Hammers, just like Hammer Bros.
Try and take this suit into a Hammer Bro. level, show them a thing or
two. |

Magic Wing/P-Wing
A Magic Wing, or later renamed P-Wing because so many people called it
that instead, looks and acts exactly like a Raccoon Suit. Accept you
have infinite Flying Power, so you can fly and fly.
But! Once used in a level, the Power goes away, and it becomes a
regular Raccoon Suit.
Also, on the map when you have it, you get a "P" on your suit. |

Kuribo's Shoe/Goomba Shoe
I couldn't forget Goomba's Shoe. This suit, is only available in 1
level, World 5-3. Even though its only available there, and can only be
used there, it is loved by many SMB3 Players.
Goomba will show up wearing this shoe, you then knock it away from him.
You can then get in it and hop along.
If you are also Fire Mario, can can still shoot fireballs through it.
You can jump on Spiny's with it, and walk on Munchers, which the level
gladly provides. |
